1st Annual LocalEco Summit to be held at The Westerly Land Trust
Saturday June 1, 2013
The Westerly Land Trust
10 High Street
Westerly, RI
A gathering of local ecological knowledge keepers makes its debut this Saturday, featuring lectures from some of the area's most respected resources for all things "green".
"We need to remember our roots," explains Keith Cowley, the event founder, who represents the team effort on behalf of The Westerly Land Trust as well as his own non-profit in-development New-Native Foundation. "Sometimes to do that we need the help of those that have walked the path before us, got their hands dirty and live life closest to Nature. LocalEco Summit calls on all our local educators who actively farm, track, hunt, fish, forage, maintain and preserve our environment."
Cowley offers up a strong lineup of presenters for the day, including Rhode Island's State Bee Inspector Jim Lawson, as well as a Narragansett perspective by Loren Spears of the Tomaquag Indian Museum. Greg Chokas, Master Wildlife Conservationist, joins the summit with a hands-on furbearers demonstration, and Born to Be Wild boasting live birds of prey.
"I want this summit to become a consistent educational resource to the community, something The Westerly Land Trust has fully supported amongst its own full schedule of educational programming this year."
The day's 1/2 hour lectures begin at 10amand are free to the public. To view the full schedule visit: www.westerlylandtrust.org
