Aquarion Water Company to Purchase 75 Acres of Land in Stonington

The purchase will allow Aquarion to further protect the water supply for its customers in Mystic and Stonington.

BRIDGEPORT, CT – Aquarion Water Company today announced that it has signed a contract with the Calve Family Corporation to purchase 75 contiguous acres of land in Stonington.

Aquarion will purchase the property, which is adjacent to its Dean’s Mill Reservoir, for $225,000, according to a release. When the sale is complete in December, the land will be classified as Class 1 and Class 2 watershed land by the Connecticut Department of Public Health.

“Our commitment to providing our customers with high quality water starts with our proactive approach to protect source water and conserve natural resources,” said Charles V. Firlotte, President and CEO of Aquarion Water Company, in a release. “Our purchase of the Calve property will allow us to further protect this finite resource and the surrounding land for the benefit of our customers in the area.”

Water from the property flows into Aquarion’s Dean’s Mill Reservoir and Palmer Reservoir, which supply water for customers in Mystic and Stonington.

“Aquarion has a proven track record across the state of protecting its reservoir and groundwater supplies by managing over 20,000 acres of land,” said Stonington First Selectman Rob Simmons in a release. “We are confident that this land purchase will enhance our water supply for everyday use and fire protection.”
