Blooms & Barns Garden Tour

Self-guided tour to benefit Wheeler Library

On Saturday, June 2nd, North Stonington’s Wheeler Library will offer Blooms & Barns, a self-guided tour of eleven unique and varied properties featuring not only gardens, but also barns, historic venues, and stunning landscapes. In addition, a country market offering locally grown tomatoes, vegetables, herbs and perennial plants, as well as local foods and baked goods will be held on the Wheeler Library lawn.

Properties to be featured include:

  • The gardens surrounding a Victorian-style house built in 1990 on what was once a cow grazing pasture, which showcase Victorian-inspired plantings including lilacs, crepe myrtle, lavender, and abundant peonies as well as mass-planted borders
  • A burgeoning home-based cut flower business, Beth’s Mystical Gardens Flower Farm.
  • A 58-acre working family farm. A visit to this property will include a visit with the animals and an overview of the current barns, with the option to inlude a hike and a visit to the log cabin.
  • Fields of Dreams , a carriage museum, housed in an Amish-style barn built two years ago. The extensive and varied collection includes six Abbot and Dunning Wells Fargo carriages and a Washington Landaulet used in Abraham Lincoln’s funeral procession in Washington, D.C.

The Blooms & Barns Tour of North Stonington runs from 9am to 4pm , the country market from 9am to noon. A locally-sourced lunch prepared by A Thyme to Cook will be offered at one of the properties. Tickets for lunch are $15 (pre-sale only) and are limited in supply. Tour and lunch tickets are available at wheelerlibrary.org. Tour tickets are $25 in advance, and $30 on June 2nd. The event will be held rain or shine. Tickets may be purchased on the 2nd at the starting point of the tour, Wheeler Library, 101 Main Street, North Stonington.
