CT Town Ranks Among 5 Best Winter Ocean Spots in New England, List Says

New England Today recently released a list of the five best places by the ocean in New England to visit in winter.

As memories of summer shine in everyone’s head while they seek shelter from the cold January air, the last place most people in Connecticut (or most of New England for that matter) are thinking about getting to is the beach.

New England Today recently released a list of the best five winter ocean weekend destinations in the region. The cites wintertime waves as “mesmerizing,” which can be seen at an affordable price due to lodging rates being so reasonable during the winter season.

Stonington Borough landed a spot on the list, the only location in Connecticut to do so. The town is highlighted for the fact that you could park your car upon arrival without needing it again until you leave.

The beauty of Petite duBois Beach is also a huge factor in Stonington ranking among the top New England destinations; one of the finest places to watch the sunset. The coffeehouses, shops, and restaurants remaining open year-round also lends itself to a nice morning or evening soaking up the downtown.

Those looking for a taste of summer in January are also advised to try Stonington Seafood Harvesters’ Bomster scallops.

Elsewhere on the list, two communities in Massachusetts were cited for the wintertime beauty. New England Today lists Falmouth and Gloucester as ideal communities to visit.

The site also ranks Newport, Rhode Island, and Kennebunkport, Maine, among the top five New England communities to visit in the winter.
