Down the Road ...Work
In Stonington, it's the roads more traveled. So well traveled in fact, they need mending.

The town Department of Public Works, has begun its road work sweep from Mystic to Pawcatuck in advance of the summer season. But DPW director Joe Bragaw and his team already have plans for road improvements slated for the fall.
Prep work will soon be under way “in the Mystic area so that we can pave them in the fall," he said.
Which roads are those? The plan calls for paving Cottrell Street, Holmes Street, Broadway Avenue, Willow Street (north of Route 1) and Jackson Avenue (from Route 1 to Washington Street).
Additionally, the Public Works Department has already met with the state Department of Transportation and will be “coordinating our work with them as they prepare for paving Route 27 (from Route 1 to Jerry Brown Road) in late September/early October of this year,” Bragaw said.
That said, DPW may also be “shimming” a number of roads across town, which means applying a chip seal treatment and thin asphalt layer, between May and October of this year, again, Bragaw said, “so that we can prepare them for a chip seal treatment next year.”
The tentative list of roads include: Wamphussac Point Road, Palmer Neck Road, Flanders Road (north of Deans Mill Road to Pequot Trail), Old Stonington Road, Wilcox Road, Elm Ridge Road, South Anguilla Road, Farmholme Road, Wolf Neck Road, Latimer Point Road (from Route 1 to the rail road tracks), Old Pequot Trail, Anguilla Brook Road, and Barnes Road.
Bragaw also said that there has been significant crack sealing done on roads across town as a preventative maintenance solution.
“These are roads that we don’t have down for major work in the future so this will stabilize them for the time being. By doing this, we are trying to buy a little more time before more substantial work can be performed on these roads,” he said.
Disclaimer: Don’t hold DPW to this schedule; things can change at any time, Bragaw said.
