Loss Of Stonington Fisherman 'Will Be Felt Deeply Across Our Waterfront'

A fisherman who operated a boat out of Stonington Town Dock was found dead Sunday, according to reports.

STONINGTON, CT — The community is grieving the loss of a fisherman who was found dead in the area of Stonington Town Dock.

The man was reported missing at 11 p.m. Saturday. Authorities found him dead Sunday morning.

He was identified as Thomas Williams, 54, of Stonington, according to WFSB 3-TV.

Stonington Fisheries Good News posted on Facebook that Williams' loss "will be felt deeply across our waterfront."

"Our thoughts are with the Williams family, loved ones, and the entire Stonington fishing community following the loss of Capt Tommy Williams," the fishery posted.

The Stonington Lobster Trap Tree said that a buoy was painted and "dedicated to Thomas Williams of the Tradition that operates out of the Stonington Town Dock" about two years ago.

"We are thankful for all that he does to feed our community!" they posted.

Lady Lynn Lobsters also mourned the loss, offering thoughts and prayers to Williams' family.

"This is the brutal reality of how dangerous the career of a commercial fisherman is," they posted.

Police said there does not appear to be anything suspicious about Williams' death, WTNH News-8 reported.

Numerous fire departments responded along with the United States Coast Guard, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and the Connecticut State Police Emergency Services Unit.
