Man Charged In Stonington Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash: Police
A man has been charged in connection with a car vs. cyclist accident in March that claimed the victim's life.

STONINGTON, CT — Police have arrested a man accused in a fatal hit-and-run accident. Jonathan Olsen, 41, of Stonington, was charged with evading responsibility.
Olsen was arrested in connection with a March accident that claimed the life of Gary Piver. Police said in April that they had identified a person of interest in the case.
The police department's Detective Division and Patrol Division spent "countless hours investigating and preparing an arrest warrant in the tragic fatal accident," according to a statement.

Police were called to a report of a motor vehicle versus cyclist accident in the area of 210 South Broad St. in Pawcatuck on March 6. Police found Piver had been struck by a vehicle traveling west on South Broad Street.
The vehicle, a dark gray Toyota SUV, took off after hitting Piver, police said. Piver was taken to Westerly Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Well-known in the community, Piver was a decades-long Stonington schools custodian. He was the uncle of Joshua Piver, who was killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
In Gary Piver's obituary, the family noted that memorial donations in his name could be made to the Joshua Piver Scholarship Fund.
Police said in a statement: "We are proud of the work our Detectives and Officers completed during this investigation and the case that has been provided to our States Attorney’s Office. As always, we will continue to conduct thorough investigations for the victims, victims' families, and the community we truly care about."
Olsen turned himself in on an arrest warrant Monday morning. He was released on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court June 15.
