Mel’s Downtown Creamery Hails as Paint the Town Purple Winner
Artwork honoring local survivors and family members that have passed on the store's window receives high praise from community
The Relay For Life of Greater Westerly announced on its Facebook page on Tuesday, May 30 that Mel’s Downtown Creamery won the popular vote for this year’s “Paint the Town Purple” campaign. Local merchants decorated their storefront windows, sidewalks, and walls in purple décor to help kick-off the final leg of Relay fundraising season and help to raise awareness for the Greater Westerly Relay For Life.
Owner of the popular downtown ice cream shop, Melanie Groggin, responded “We are so honored to have been voted best windows in the Relay's Paint the Town Purple event. It truly means so much for all the strong names that we are honoring in our store.” Ms. Groggin has participated in Paint the Town Purple in the past, but was compelled this year to make it even more special. She noted, “It was extremely important to me to make this year’s windows more personal to those who battle, have battled and are battling.”
