MRHS Program: The "Charles W. Morgan's" Past and Future

On Wednesday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m., the Mystic River Historical will feature a panel from Mystic Seaport who will discuss the history and restoration of the last surviving wooden whaleship, Charles W. Morgan. Since her launch date is scheduled shortly afterward in July this will be an opportunity to learn about what is involved in preparing for the launch and what will happen afterward.
Members of the panels are: Steve White, President of Mystic Seaport. Steve has been the President since 2009, is the former Headmaster of the Fay School, an independent boarding school outside of Boston, and is a lifelong sailor. Quentin Snediker, Director of the Henry B. DuPont Preservation Shipyard at Mystic Seaport. Quentin oversaw the design and building of the Amistad and the restoration of the Eastern Dragger Roann prior to the Morgan Restoration Project, and is the co author of "Chesapeake Bay Schooners." Matthew Stackpole, Major Gifts Officer and Morgan Restoration Project Ship's Historian. Matthew is the former Executive Director of the Martha's Vineyard Museum, and an Overseer of the USS Constitution Museum.
The program is at the Mystic Congregational Church Parish Hall and will be followed by a question and answer period and refreshments.  It is free and open to the public.  For more information, call the Mystic River Historical Society 536-4779, or email info@mystichistory.org.
