Mystic River Bridge Temporarily 'Stuck' Thursday Night, Required Adjustments

Under the bridge downtown ...engineers worked to get 'her working again.

By Ellyn Santiago

Mystic River Bridge project manager Brent Church said the bridge's "gate got caught up on guides" preventing it from moving Thursday night which forced its temporary shut down.

With police, town highway officials and the contractor on scene, a female project engineer was lowered into a manhole-like cover inside the bridge to make adjustments.

After an hour or so, workers were able to get the gate operational and a few bystanders clapped at the effort.

Church said glitches and adjustments are par for the course.

"We expected we'd have to make some adjustments here and there."
