Old Mystic Bridge Could See Repairs, Re-Open After More than 6 Years
The $1.2 million restoration project qualifies for nearly $600,000 in state funding.

STONINGTON, CT – A bridge that has been out for years may see necessary repairs if two towns agree to fund the project.
The bridge separates Groton and Stonington in Old Mystic, but has been out for more than six years, according to the Westerly Sun. The $1.2 million restoration project qualifies for nearly $600,000 in state funding, leaving the two towns to pay close to $300,000 each.
Stonington First Selectman Rob Simmons has said he is deferring the decision to accept state support to Groton, though he is in support of repairing the bridge, the Westerly Sun reported. The bridge’s inactive status has been cited as a public safety issue by the Old Mystic Fire Department.
