UPDATE: Power Restored After CL&P Cut Power in Borough Over 'Dangerous Safety Concern'
Metal scaffolding erected dangerously close to CL&P lines; utility shut down power.

Update at 3:25 p.m.: Power restored after scaffolding removed from Water Street residence, not Cutler as CL&P previously said.
UPDATE:
CL&P spokesman Mitch Gross has confirmed that the utility deliberately cut the power to a significant portion of Stonington Borough because of a "serious safety concern."
Gross said a resident on Cutler Street has a scaffolding erected "very, very close" to CL&P power lines.
"A lineman discovered this and we acted," he said. Gross said there is apparent renovation work and "whoever erected" the metal scaffolding did so directly next to power lines: "A major, major safety issue." Gross said power has been cut as crews begin to remove the scaffolding.
Gross was not able to say how long that process would take, but would be done "as soon as possible."
These streets have been affected: Water, Main, Orchard, Board, Gold, Trumbull and Grand.
