Stonington Farm Thefts Result in Missing Money and Produce

A retired couple's farmstand has experienced some issues with thieves in the last week.

STONINGTON, CT- In the last week, money and produce have been stolen from a retired couple’s farmstand on River Road, the Westerly Sun reported.

Though typically operating their stand on an honor system, Shady Lane Farm owners Gene and Nancy Bessette have had the lockbox where their money is kept broken into three times, according to the Westerly Sun. Tools used to break open the box have included a chisel, a reciprocating saw and even a large rock.

Customers have also reportedly been taking items from the stand without paying for them, resulting in the couple needing to take extra security measures, the Westerly Sun reported. The couple have asked customers who see a theft occurring to take down license plate numbers or get a photo, while they will also be installing security cameras to prevent future thefts.
