A low-cost rabies vaccination clinic for dogs and cats will be held Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Stonington Police Dept., 173 South Broad St., Pawcatuck.
The fee for the rabies shot is $20 - cash only. All dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in a carrier.
State law requires that all dogs and cats over three months of age be vaccinated against rabies. Written proof of a prior vaccination is required for a three-year certificate. Dogs three months old or which have not been vaccinated before must receive a one-year vaccination.
Stonington dog licenses will also be issued at the clinic. Dog licenses must be purchased for all dogs 6 months or older by the end of June at a cost of $8 for a neutered or spayed dog and $19 for all other dogs. After June 30, there will be a late charge imposed of $1 per month for each month that a dog is not licensed.
The Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association is sponsoring the low-cost vaccinations. Everyone owning either a cat or a dog is strongly encouraged to have both vaccinated because of the existence of rabies throughout the state.
