Word On The Street (Paving!)

From Stonington DPW director Joe Bragaw, an update on the town-wide street paving project voters blessed last year.

"We are almost done with our first phase of paving. Due to the weather and material availability we had to make some changes to which roads that we worked on. At this point, this is what we accomplished and what we are planning to do next;

The cold in place recycle job on Lantern Hill Rd has been completed. We are looking to pave over the top of this treatment later in June (except for the area around Stonington Gardens that is already completed with the top surface). We still will need to adjust some drainage structures before the final paving. The road will most likely not be closed to through traffic during the paving as the paving box is narrower than the cold in place recycle train.
We have already completed the paving of the lower portion of Masons Island Rd, half of Harry Austin Dr in the Mystic area and Lester Ave in Pawcatuck.
We laid a leveling course on Chase and Washington Streets and Stillman Ave and will be installing the top course of pavement on these roads between Tuesday and Friday of next week. We still have to adjust some drainage and manholes structures on Stillman Ave before the final paving.
We milled Elm Street near the Town Hall and Trumbull ave near the Stonington COMO and plan on paving this next week.
We will be doing the cold in place recycle treatment on Taugwonk Rd from just north of the Exit 91 interchange to the bottom of the hill where the road narrows on Tuesday 5/28/13. We will be paving the entire width of pavement a few weeks after the cold in place recycle treatment.
Our plans are always subject to change based on weather and other issues that might pop up, but this is what it looks like right now. We hope this information helps in planning your travels.
