Yacht Captain Ordered To Surrender License, Awaiting Trial

A yacht captain has been ordered to surrender his marine license while awaiting trial for charges related to a Stonington boater's death.

STONINGTON, CT - A New Jersey yacht captain has been ordered to surrender his marine license while awaiting trial for charges related to a Stonington boater's death, the New London Day reported. The suspect was recently indicted on a manslaughter charge on Dec. 6.

Court officials said Cooper "Chick" Bacon, 78, of Cape May, N.J., did not take standard precautions while at the helm of a yacht in September 2015, according to the New London Day. The yacht was making its was from Newport, R.I., to Stamford at the time of the incident.

Court officials said Walter S. Krupinski, 81, of Stonington was killed after the yacht collided with his small powerboat, the New London Day reported. The suspect faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, court officials said.
