Milford Mayor Wants DOT to Schedule Exit 33 Public Hearing

Stratford's mayor said the project will benefit businesses in his town.

Milford’s mayor is pushing for a public hearing on the proposed redesign of I-95’s Exit 33.

The New Haven Register reported that Mayor Benjamin Blake has requested that the state’s Department of Transportation hold a meeting to address concerns of the Devon-Stratford Merchants and Citizens Coaltion.

The group is concerned that the exit would hurt business by severely reducing traffic.

They sent a letter to Blake that said the exit would pose a “potential loss of livelihood to nearby Devon small businesses stemming from a severe reduction in traffic resulting from the redirection of the current traffic pattern on Route 1.”

The state has said the potential impact on travel through the area would be minimal.

The Register said that Stratford Mayor John A. Harkins feels the project will benefit businesses in his town and help alleviate traffic on Bridgeport Avenue in Devon.
