Murder Suspect Captured In Stratford

The suspect, who is wanted in connection to the shooting death of a man in South Carolina, was found hiding out in Stratford.

STRATFORD, CT — A suspect in the shooting death of a man in South Carolina was found hiding out in Stratford and taken into custody on Tuesday morning, according to authorities. Andrew Maxswane Evins, 23, was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force and the Stratford Police Department at about 9:30 a.m. in Stratford.

Evins is a suspect in the homicide shooting death of Jervaughn McKins, 23, which occurred on Aug. 12 in Eutawville, South Carolina. To sign up for Stratford breaking news alerts and more, click here.

“The U.S. Marshals in South Carolina were asked to assist by the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Department in locating Evins who they believed had fled the area,” authorities wrote in a news release. “During the course of the fugitive investigation information was developed that Evins had fled to Connecticut. The Violent Fugitive Task Force developed information that Evins was hiding out in the Stratford area. He was located at the Rodeway Inn in Stratford and was taken into custody without incident.”

U.S. Marshals from Connecticut were assisted by the Bridgeport Police Department, Norwalk Police Department and the Stratford Police Department. Evins was turned over to the Bridgeport Police Department where he will be charged as a Fugitive of Justice and will be held pending extradition to Orangeburg County, South Carolina.

Evins has two active state warrants for murder and possession of a weapon out of South Carolina.
