The new Rotary Hut will be dedicated on Saturday, October 15, at 1 p.m. at the Suffield High School, 1060 Sheldon Street, West Suffield. The date coincides with Suffield Sports Day when many teams from the schools are competing.
This $260,000 outdoor facility, for which the Suffield Rotary Club was the principal donor, was a cooperative venture of the town, the schools, sports booster clubs, and private donors. The majority of the Rotary donation came from the Glenn T. Packard Memorial Fund which is now managed by Rotary and used to support school sports in town. A sizeable contribution came from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.
The building features food concession areas, restrooms, and storage for outdoor sports equipment. Already in use since its completion several weeks ago, the food concession have already been brisk as reported by sports booster clubs.
In addition to the ribbon cutting ceremony, several speakers including town government representatives and Rotarians are scheduled to give short talks on the fundraising effort, design, and construction of the building. Refreshments will be served, and the public is invited.
