Knights Beat Wildcats 9-7 in Softball Action

Ellington took the win over Suffield in a game that came down to the final out.

The Ellington Knights varsity softball team beat the Suffield Wildcats 9-7 on Friday afternoon in a game punctuated by a high-scoring seventh inning.

The teams entered the last inning tied 4-4. Suffield (11-2) had already scored three runs and had the tying run on base, but the last out crossed the plate. Ellington (11-2) put up 5 runs in the seventh and went home with a win.

Top performers for the Knights included Ali Larew, who was named the most valuable player of the game by Ellington coach Tom Gordon. Larew hit a three-run triple in the seventh inning. Sam Anthony and Danielle Pare each contributed two runs.

Presser said the Suffield team suffered because of errors, which were especially costly in the seventh inning.

“The errors just killed us,” she said.

She also wasn’t particularly pleased with the defense, but did point out that the team was a hit away from tying and had a rally in the bottom of the seventh to pull within striking distance.

Suffield plays next on Tuesday in East Windsor. Ellington takes on Somers at home on Tuesday.
