At mid-December it is deep into The Christmas Season. And at The United Congregational Church of Tolland plans are set for several events that are special to this most anxiously awaited time in the life of the Christian world.
Sunday, December 18, is Brass Sunday at UCC Tolland. Arranged by Minister of Music, Allan Conway, both the 8:30 and 10:00 services will include special Christmas music performed by a brass quartet and timpanist. This is a tradition that has a long and deep history at UCCT. It is one which the congregation eagerly looks forward to. Musical preludes begin at 8:20 and 9:50. Visitors are cordially invited to attend.

Christmas Eve is a busy time in every household of our community; probably without exception. And at UCC Tolland the situation is certainly not different. As is the tradition, three services are scheduled, each with a unique focus on the arrival of the Christian Savior.
At 6:00 PM the service is set to include the youngest members of the church. The play, “The Promise,” will be presented under the direction of the Christian Education leaders. This play tells the story that began on a cold night in Bethlehem through the 12 days of Christmas. The Children's Choir and Joyful Voices Youth Choir will sing and every child is invited to participate in any of the non-speaking roles.

A service for families will begin at 8:00 PM. Those attending will enjoy the delightful voices of The Chancel Choir accompanied by Minister of Music, Allan Conway on piano and organ. This service begins with the lighting of The Christ Candle in the center of the Advent Wreath. The Reverend Jeff Gallagher will deliver a Christmas story that is certain to entertain and provide food for thought. The highlight, literally, will be the congregation exiting with lighted candles to sing Silent Night, a Capella, in the quiet darkness of Tolland Green, thus taking the Light of Christmas out into the world before heading home for “. . . a long winter's nap.”
A midnight service ushering in Christmas Day will begin at 11:00 PM. In this late hour the sanctuary will be darkened to set a peaceful atmosphere. The Christ Candle will be lit. Soloists will offer carols. Prayers will be said. A Christmas message will be offered by The Reverend Ruth Nye. And at the conclusion, the congregation will share a silent candle lighted recession.
The Pastors, staff and congregation extend a warm welcome to all to join them in this season of joy.
