Lemek Farm Greenhouse Donated Mums to 300th Celebration

Owner Les Lemek will be honored by town council Nov. 10.

TOLLAND – Residents who noticed the beautiful mums at the Tolland 300th Anniversary celebration Sept. 19 can thank Lemek Farm Greenhouse for its donation of the flowers.

The greenhouse, owned by Les Lemek, made an in-kind donation of $1,000 worth of mums to line the parade route and grace the grounds of the 300th anniversary picnic on Sept. 19.
The business at 351 Goose Lane is the latest major donor who supported this year’s Tolland 300th celebration. It is listed as a Crandall-level donor at www.tolland300.org, where a complete list of donors can be found.
Lemek Farm Greenhouse will be honored by the anniversary committee and its partner, the Tolland Historical Society, for its donation on Nov. 10 at the town council meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers.
Celeste Senechal, co-chairwoman of the anniversary committee, thanked Lemek Farm Greenhouse for its donation.
“We received many compliments about the flowers along the parade route and at the picnic,’’ she said. “Thank you very much to Lemek Farm Greenhouse for becoming our latest major sponsor.”
Lemek said he wanted to support the celebration because of his family’s long ties to Tolland.
“My family has been in Tolland since the 1930s,’’ he said. “I remember the Tolland 250th and I wanted to be a part of the Tolland 300th.”
About Lemek Farm Greenhouse
The business is a seasonal greenhouse grower open to the public in May, June, July, September and October. It is located on 18 acres of Lemek’s grandparents’ original dairy farm. In the spring, it offers thousands of flowering annuals, hanging baskets, perennials, herbs and vegetables, including 75 varieties of tomatoes and more than 35 varieties of peppers. The farm grows 95 percent of what it sells. In the fall, it offers beautiful mums, pumpkins, cornstalks, hay bales and gourds. Next door is the Lemek Farms berry patch, known as “Larry’s Berries,” with pick-your-own blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and Lemek’s own honey. The farm expands every year, and Lemek said he hopes to see residents stop by.
