The United Congregational Church of Tolland is holding its second Heifer International Living Gift Market on Sunday, May 22nd. Since 1944, Heifer International has worked to end worldwide hunger and poverty by providing livestock, trees, seeds, and training in environmentally sound agriculture to more than 25 million families in more than 125 countries. Goats, heifers, bees, and chicks are but some of the animals given to impoverished families. Each farming family in turn passes on animals or time and knowledge to another impoverished family - multiplying the impact of the original gift.
The children, Christian Education Committee, and Missions Committee of the Church teamed up to visit the Heifer arm in Rutland, MA on April 3rd to learn about sustainable farming - exploring the benefits of livestock's 7 M's - milk, manure, meat, materials, money, motivation and muscle. Then on May 22nd, they will sponsor their second Heifer International Living Gift Market with displays, refreshments, and opportunities to contribute to ending hunger and poverty. Gifts range from entire heifers to tiny chicks and can be a life-saving alternative gift for Mother's Day, Father's Day, teacher's gifts and more.
