UCC of Tolland Holy Week Services
Join the congregation for one or more services during Holy Week

Written by: Brian Pabst
As the Christian world is in the midst of the season of Lent, The United Congregational Church of Tolland welcomes all in the community to join us as we celebrate Holy Week. The last eight days of Lent are recognized by many as one of the most holy periods in the history of Christianity.
Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, April 9. Interim Associate Pastor Ruth Nye will deliver a message of Christ's journey to Jerusalem. Services begin at 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM. Palms will be distributed to all attendees.

On Tuesday, April 11, there will be a continuation of the mid-week Lenten Service of Prayer, Song and Meditation. The pastors lead this simple thirty minute service at 8:00 AM in the church sanctuary.
The evening of April 13, at 7:00 PM, the Board of Deacons lead a Maundy Thursday service celebrating The Last Supper. After serving Communion to the congregation, the Deacons present readings of selected Bible passages with the sanctuary dimmed to candle light. As each passage is finished, a candle is extinguished and the sanctuary is engulfed in darkness, followed by the silent exit and departure of the congregation.

April 14 is Good Friday. This is the day Jesus was crucified. There will be a short service at 7:30 PM to remember Jesus' last hours on earth.
Easter Sunday, April 16, will be a marathon of services celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the tomb. A 6:00 AM Sunrise Service at the edge of the pond behind The Lodge at Crandall's Park will be led by the pastors and will include a service of Communion. Regular services at 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM will be held in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Dr. Jeffrey M. Gallagher, Senior Pastor will lead these services and deliver the Easter sermon. Some special treats are included on this day as there will be special music provided by The Brass Quartet beginning at 8:20 and 9:50. And The Chancel Choir is rumored to be giving a performance of The Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah. This is music not to be missed!
The pastors and deacons invite all interested persons to join the congregation in remembering the last days of Christ's earthly life.
