State Treasurer Race Dead Heat, Herbst Tied with Nappier 50-50

The gubernatoral race is one of the closest in the state, but even closer is the race for state treasurer. Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst is giving longtime Democrat incumbent Denise Nappier a run for her money.

Nappier had around 197,441 votes compared to Herbst’s 194,355 as of 11:15 p.m., according to WTNH.

The two candidates met in a debate last week for the first and only time. Nappier’s mother recently passed away.

Herbst has criticized Nappier for her handling of pension accounts for the state. He has been a proponent of weakening the state treasurer position, which has a large measure of control over state pension investment accounts.
