100 MPH Crash on I-84 Ends With Police Dog Nabbing Suspected Dealer

VERNON, CT — A tailgating driver who was fleeing a Friday evening traffic stop on Interstate 84 in Vernon first crashed his car at 100 MPH, then gave in to an approaching police dog, an arrest report shows.

At 6:12 p.m. on Friday, state troopers stopped a white Infinity for following took closely on a stretch of I-84 eastbound in Vernon, according to an arrest report. The plate registered as a "misuse" in a law enforcement database, state police said.

As a trooper approached the car, The driver sped away at a high rate of speed and nearly hit a state police cruiser that was clearing the scene of another stop, according to an arrest report.

As the Infiniti passed the Exit 67 area at more than 100 MPH, the driver lost control and hit an embankment, according to an arrest report.

Troopers surrounded the car as the driver attempted to escape on foot and state police dog Drago was deployed, according to an arrest report. The driver quickly gave up and was taken into custody. A search of the car located an unlicensed 9MM pistol with 13 rounds loaded into a 15-round clip, 12 grams of crack cocaine, a digital scale and a "small" amount of fentanyl, according to an arrest report.

The driver was subsequently identified as 27-year-old New Britain resident Kayshown Alamo and he was brought to Hartford Hospital for a broken arm, records show.

He was charged with:

  • First-degree reckless endangerment
  • Criminal possession of a firearm
  • Violating large-cap magazine requirements
  • Illegal possession of a weapon o a motor vehicle
  • Carrying a pistol without a permit
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Sale of a narcotic substance
  • Use of drug paraphernalia
  • An auto tint violation
  • Improper tires or wheels
  • Following too closely
  • Failure to drive in a proper lane
  • Engaging police in a pursuit
  • Reckless driving/faster than 85 mph
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Improper use of a plate

Alamo was held over the weekend on a $250,000 bond and was to appear in Rockville Superior Court Monday.
