Altercation Breaks Out in Vernon's Rockville Section Tuesday, 5 Arrested
The Vernon altercation broke out minutes after police resolved an armed standoff on Route 83.
VERNON, CT — Less that an hour after an armed standoff on Route 83 was peacefully resolved, Vernon police responded to a two-part large altercation in the Rockville section of town on Tuesday.
The standoff ended peacefully at 9:25 p.m. Police had finished a 9:40 p.m. news conference and were still cleaning up the scene at 10:30 p.m. when the call about a large disturbance at 74 Union Street came in, according to a report.
Six calls about the melee came in, police said.

The main combatant was 22-year-old Anthony Nieves, of Hartford, who two weeks ago was arrested for second-degree rioting and assaulting an officer at the same location, police said. He also has two outstanding warrants for violating probation records show.
He resisted arrest and was subdued by a Taser twice, police said. In addition to the probation violations, Nieves was charged with second-degree breach of peace and interfering, according to a report. His collective bonds totaled $150,000, police said.

His sister, 27-year-old Gladys Ramos, of Vernon, jumped into the fray and was arrested for interfering and second-degree breach of peace, police said. A group had been forming around police but eventually dispersed, according to a report.
At about midnight, more calls came in about more altercations and noise at 74 Union Street, police said. The callers said women were rampaging their way through the area questioning residents about calling the police during the first altercation.
One of them, 22-Year-old Kaitlyn Mangan, of Vernon, is accused of barging her way into an apartment and confronting the resident, according to a report. She was charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace, according to a report. Police said they found her on West Main Street.
Jhaylene Montes, 19, and Akaisha Whaley, 21, were both charged with third-degree criminal mischief and second-degree breach of peace and held in $50,000 bonds each, police said. Whaley was also issued a ticket for walking down the street with an open container of beer, police said.
All were to appear in court on Wednesday, police said.
