VERNON, CT — With a police dog looming, a burglary suspect at a Vernon residence gave up rather quickly, an arrest report indicates.

At 9:36 Thursday night, Vernon police received a burglary call from a home on Prospect Street. Someone had broken a first-floor window and climbed inside the home, according to an arrest report.

Officers surrounded the apartment in question and, after several attempts to communicate with those inside, issued a warning that Enfield police dog Odin would be released by handler, Officer Shawn Kotecki, according to an arrest report. The team was on call that night.

The suspect quickly gave up, according to an arrest report. He was identified as 32-year-old Vernon resident Andrew Depetro. He was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal trespass, the violation of a protective order and second-degree criminal mischief.

Depetro's initial $50,000 bond was upped by $100,000 by a judge the following day in court and he remained in custody to begin this week with a return date of July 27, judicial system records show.
