VERNON, CT — The community is rallying around a Vernon teacher who was victimized by a fire last week.

Katya Lagun-Brando is a third-grade teacher at Maple Street School. School system officials said that, on Jan 31, a fire broke out inside her condominium. Lagun-Brando, her husband and their baby were not injured, but the family dog and their belongings were lost.

A Go-Fund-Me page has been set up to assist the family. As of Wednesday afternoon, $3,610 has been raised with a total goal of $5,000.
