VERNON, CT — U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney Thursday evening reacted quickly to the news that Russia has levied retaliatory sanctions against him and 397 other members of Congress in response to U.S. actions designed to "hold President Vladimir Putin and the Russian government accountable for the invasion of Ukraine."

Courtney lives in Vernon and represents Connecticut's 2nd Congressional District.

"Being sanctioned by Vladimir Putin is a badge of honor," said Congressman Courtney. "Standing with the Ukraine people against his savage attack on a sovereign democracy is the moral imperative of our time."

Russia announced that it has imposed retaliatory sanctions on 398 U.S. members of Congress, placing them on the country’s travel “stop list” permanently.
