Driver Nearly 3 Times Past Limit In In Vernon Head-On Crash: Police

An arrest has been made in connection with a serious crash in Vernon over the winter, police said.

VERNON, CT — A 30-year-old Hebron woman has been charged in connection with a January head-on crash in Vernon that left the other driver seriously hurt, police said.

A warrant was served to Samantha Lee Guay Monday and police released the details of the case Wednesday. Guay has been charged with second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, speeding (greater than 60 mph) driving under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane.

According to a Vernon police crash report, the incident took place at 12:24 a.m. on Jan. 13 along the 100 block of Hartford Turnpike.

Guay was headed south in a Subaru Cross Trek and suddenly swerved into the opposite lane and hit a Volvo XC70 head-on, according to a crash report. The driver of the Volvo suffered a broken femur and broken left elbow, the report indicates. The Subaru was traveling between 64 and 69 mph at impact, according to a crash report.

A crash report also indicates Guay tested for a blood alcohol level of .23, well past the state drunken driving threshold of .08.

She posted a $75,000 bond and is due on Rockville Superior Court on April 30, records show.
