A man is facing a drunken driving charge in Vernon after falling asleep in a car with children in the back seat, police said.

VERNON, CT — A 35-year-old man is facing a drunken driving charge after Vernon police found him passed out in a running vehicle with children aboard at a local restaurant.
Vernon police issued details on the case Monday.
At 8:48 p.m. on Feb. 15, Vernon police received a call about an unresponsive man in a vehicle in the parking lot of a restaurant on Route 30, according to an arrest report.

He was sleeping behind the steering wheel with the car running and two children were in the rear seat, according to an arrest report.
A report states that an officer woke the man up, and he proceeded to fail a field sobriety test. There was no reference in a report to the children being harmed.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence and two counts of risk of injury to a child. He is due in court Wednesday, police said.
