VERNON, CT — A drunken driving stop in Vernon, turned into a felony weapons charge against a Coventry man, police said.

A report on the March 23 incident was recently released.

At 1:07 p.m. that morning, Vernon police officers stopped a swerving vehicle on Union Street and the driver, identified as 22-year-old Ethan Underhill, failed a field sobriety test, according to an arrest report.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a hunting knife with a 9-inch blade, according to an arrest report.

Underhill was charged with illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, failure to drive in the proper lane and driving under the influence.
