VERNON, CT — A Vernon man is accused of pointing a rifle at a passing vehicle during a road rage incident on Interstate 84, state police said.

The altercation took place at 4:07 p.m. last Friday on the eastbound side of the highway near Exit 66, state police said.

According to an arrest report, a driver called state police at the Troop C barracks to say someone in another vehicle stuck a rifle out of a window and pointed it during a disagreement. The offending vehicle was later stopped by Vernon police after it exited the highway, state police said.

Pedro Gil, 37, of Vernon, was subsequently charged with illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, possession of a facsimile firearm, second-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace after an incident on I-84.

He was released on a $10,000 bond and is due in court on Dec. 27, records show.
