Jury Finds Man Who 'Returned' Court GPS Unit In Vernon Case Guilty

A man who had been charged with multiple protective order violations in Vernon is now facng 15 years in prison.

VERNON, CT — A jury in Rockville Superior Court Tuesday found a defendant guilty in a case of multiple protective order violations in Vernon.

Tolland State’s Attorney Matthew C. Gedansky said that 46-year-old Michael Gramegna was found guilty of three counts of violating a protective order.

Judge Corinne Klatt presided over the jury trial.

According to case records, Gramegna, of Bolton, was in violation of three full no-contact protective orders in Vernon issued by Judge Hope Seeley and Judge James Sicilian. Gramegna was arrested at the scene of the violations by members of the Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crimes, Bureau of Special Investigations, and Emergency Services Unit – Tactical Team on December 3, 2020.

At the time of Gramegna’s arrest, he had multiple outstanding felony warrants and 16 pending cases that included charges related to domestic violence, weapons, violations of protective orders, and assault on police. Several days prior to his arrest, he was in violation of his court-imposed conditions of release that he be monitored by a GPS unit and adhere to a 24-hour lockdown in his home when he removed the unit and sent it back to the court.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 31 in Rockville Superior Court. Gramegna faces a maximum sentence of 15 years to serve and $15,000 in fines.
