Law Enforcement Drug Raid In Vernon Nabs Stash That Included Morphine
A Vernon apartment complex was the target of a local, state and federal drug raid Thursday.

VERNON, CT — Local police, federal authorities and a regional narcotics task force broke up a drug store at a Vernon apartment complex Wednesday that included morphine in its inventory.
The raid took place about 7:30 p.m. at the Sleeping Giant federally subsidized apartment complex at 1238 Hartford Turnpike in Vernon.
Local police, members of the state's East Central Narcotics Task Force and a federal Drug Enforcement Administration task force executed a search warrant at a residence and a vehicle there. The raid was part of a lengthy investigation into activities there, authorities said.

During the search, officers located:
- 143 Oxycodone 30 mg pills
- 18 morphine extended release 15 mg tablets
- 16 Oxycodone 15 mg pills
Natoshia Barfield, 48 was arrested and charged with the sale of a narcotic substance with a related conspiracy charge and failure to keep narcotics in their original container. She was held overnight on a $100,000 bond and was to appear in Rockville Superior Court Thursday, records show.

Hugh Morgan, 56, was charged on two warrants with the illegal sale of prescription drugs, the sale of a narcotic substance and possession of a controlled substance with bonds totaling $110,000. His bond for a third warrant was $100,000 on charges of failure to keep narcotics in their original container and possession of narcotics with intent to to sell, records show. He also was to appear in court Thursday.
