Mobile Drug Store Discovered in Vernon After Traffic Stop

Vernon said they police found a variety of drugs in a car after a weekend traffic stop.

VERNON, CT — Vernon police uncovered what was essentially a mobile drug store after a weekend traffic stop, a report indicates.

At 5:34 p.m. on Saturday, a Vernon canine unit was conducting speed enforcement on Talcottville Road in Vernon.

An officer observed a vehicle traveling well above the posted speed limit and pulled the car over, police said.

During the course of the traffic stop, the officer observed that the occupants were "acting very nervous," and conducted a consent search of the driver, identified as Steven Martinchek, police said in a report.

An officer found two small bags of suspected marijuana and suspected marijuana wax and Martinchek then told officers that there were more illegal drugs in the vehicle, police said.

A search of the vehicle yielded the following, according to a police report:

  • Approximately 213 grams of suspected marijuana in bud and wax form
  • None bags of MDMA\ or "Molly" totaling approximately 22 grams
  • 10 pills of Ecstasy
  • Approximately 120 tabs of suspected LSD
  • Approximately 1.53 grams of suspected crack cocaine
  • A "large amount" of U.S currency

Martinchek was arrested, processed on numerous charges and later released after posting a $10,000 surety bond, police said.
