Persistent Public Poopers Wanted For Questioning By Vernon Animal Control (patch.com) — Vernon Animal Control is asking residents to help identify a man whose off-leash dogs have repeatedly been allowed to defecate on other people's property around town. Officials shared a photo and reminded residents that town ordinance requires owners to clean up after pets, with violations potentially drawing $90 fines for each day the problem continues.

Vernon Police Dog Uncovers Drugs, Weapon In Car, After Loud Music Complaint At Apartment Complex (patch.com) — A loud music complaint at a South Street apartment complex in Vernon led police to a gold Honda Accord with mismatched registration and visible drug paraphernalia. After K-9 Boone searched the car, officers reported finding crack cocaine, ecstasy pills, a glass pipe, and a Taser, resulting in multiple drug and weapon charges for a passenger.
   

3. Connecticut towns are installing license plate reading cameras on school buses (timesargus.com) — Vernon has begun using AI-powered cameras on its school buses to catch drivers who illegally pass when red lights are flashing, already recording nearly 100 violations in just three days. Local police and town officials say the system aims to prevent tragedies, while some Connecticut residents and civil liberties advocates raise broader privacy and data-sharing concerns about automated license plate readers statewide.
   

4. A CT foundation is donating $630K to a wide swathe of organization. What it targets. (courant.com) — Vernon residents may benefit from a $10,000 grant awarded to the Vernon Community Network as part of a $630,000 Greater Hartford Gives Foundation effort to support basic needs. The funding, focused heavily on food assistance, aims to help families facing financial stress across the region, with dozens of nonprofits boosting access to meals, personal care items, and emergency aid.
