Plate-Breaking, Knife-Drawing Fight at Vernon Denny's Leads to Charges

Five were cited after a brawl at the Vernon Denny's.

VERNON, CT — Plates were broken, a knife was drawn and several people were cited after a disturbance at the local Denny's early Sunday morning, police said.

At 2:54 a.m., Vernon officers were dispatched to 35 Talcottville Road — the Denny's Restaurant — after a restaurant staff member said for four males were fighting inside.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with Adam O'Connor, 27, who was walking out of the restaurant with a knife in his hand, police said. When approached by officers, he immediately dropped the knife, a police report indicates.

After officers took the knife, O'Connor told them he was "jumped" by four males who were later identified as 27-year-old Jesse Midwood, 37-year-old Joshua Cruz, 29-year-old Joshua Paradise and 27-year-old and Jesus Villar, according to a report.

O'Connor stated they were all fighting inside the restaurant and he pulled out his knife to protect himself, according to a report.

The Denny's manager stated O'Connor and Midwood were the initial aggressors, according to a report.

The manager stated she wanted the men arrested for not only causing a disturbance, but breaking a light and plates inside the restaurant.

O'Connor and Midwood were subsequently arrested and transported to the Vernon Police Department, according to a report.

O'Connor was charged with breach of peace and criminal mischief and later released on a $3,000 non-surety bond, police said. Midwood was charged with breach of peace, criminal mischief, and third-degree assault and later released on a $5,000 non-surety bond, police said.

Both have a court date of Aug. 15 in Rockville Superior Court.

Cruz, Paradise, and Villar were all issued infractions for creating a public disturbance, police said.
