Plow Truck Ends Up In Pond In Vernon, Driver Charged: Report

A plow truck careened into a pond early Thursday morning, police said.

VERNON, CT — A plow truck careened into a pond early Thursday morning and the driver was charged with drunken driving shortly after the call came in, a police report indicates.

Vernon police dispatchers were alerted to the incident at 2:25 a.m. They were told a plow truck had driven over an embankment and landed in a pond at 95 Hockanum Boulevard, according to a report.

When an officer arrived at the scene, he located the driver, 25-year-old Austin Putnam, on the road, a report indicates. He said he was the only occupant of the truck, according to a report. He first failed field sobriety tests and then registered blood alcohol contents of .1413 and .1262 in subsequent tests, well past the legal limit of .08, a report indicates.

Putnam, who lives in Vernon, was charged with driving under the influence and traveling too fast for conditions, according to a report.

He is due in court on March 4, police said.
