Vernon Election 2021: Democrats Endorse Schoolnik, Choose Slate

The Vernon Democratic Town Committee has endorsed its slate for the November municipal election.

VERNON, CT — On Wednesday evening, the Vernon Democratic Town Committee formally endorsed Jesse Schoolnik as its candidate for mayor in the November municipal election. Local Democrats also picked a slate of eight town council candidates and five board of education candidates.

Schoolnik, is a member of the Vernon Planning and Zoning Commission as well as an executive board member of the Vernon-Rockville Lions Club. He said that his campaign will focus on economic development in Vernon.

"Bringing in new businesses and restaurants – maybe even a brewery – will help attract people from our surrounding towns to spend their time and money, and help stimulate our economy."

Schoolnik also focused on the current administration, stating "In recent years, we’ve seen a conflict of interest in the mayor’s office, with dueling constituencies in Vernon, Hartford and surrounding towns. Vernon deserves a mayor who will focus only on Vernon and I will be that mayor."

  • Town Council: Karen Colt, Nicola Chambers-Holder, Ann Letendre, Maryann Levesque, Ariana Nieves-Matias, Dennis Plevyak, Teri-Lynn Rogers and Jennifer Hirschberg-Wise.
  • Board of Education: Kevin Brown and Josh Poloski (four-year terms); Greg Buonome and Kristiana Wintress (two-year terms). Jennifer Buckler is running to fill a Board of Education vacancy in a special election.
