Vernon Losing 'A True Professional' With Finance Officer Resignation
Vernon's finance director is stepping down to move closer to his home, officials said.

VERNON, CT — Jeffrey O’Neill, who has served as Vernon’s finance officer and treasurer since 2018, is leaving his position for a new position closer to his home in Massachusetts.
The move, Vernon Town Administrator Michael Purcaro said, is effective Feb. 1.
"We are going to miss Jeff and wish him well. He has done a phenomenal job in his role as finance officer and treasurer." Purcaro said.

"I am grateful to Jeff for his service to the people of Vernon," Vernon Mayor Dan Champagne said. "Jeff is a man of integrity and a true professional who has carefully managed taxpayer dollars."
Purcaro said O'Neill was instrumental in several initiatives that "moved Vernon's finance department forward." Some are enhancing the use and functionality of the town's financial software system, maximizing the town's investments and cash flow and working with the administration in "implementing zero-based budgeting across all departments."

O'Neill also played a central role in "stabilizing" the tax rate during unprecedented economic times as part of Vernon's nationally recognized response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
O'Neill will be honored during a reception at Town Hall on his last day, Purcaro said.
