Vernon Man Already Charged in Drive-By Shooting Now Facing Gun Theft Charges

A man already charged in a Vernon shooting allegedly stole a gun.

VERNON, CT — A man already implicated in a summertime drive-by shooting in the Rockville section of Vernon has now been charged with stealing a gun, police said on Friday.

On Friday, Vernon police met Coolidge Edwards, 21, at Rockville Superior Court and served him an arrest warrant.

The warrant charged Edwards with criminal possession of a firearm, theft of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and conspiracy/trafficking firearms.

Edwards also has a history of drug involvement, records show, and police charged him with conspiracy/sale of marijuana, and sixth-degree larceny, according to a warrant.

Police sad the charges stem from a stolen handgun complaint reported to the Vernon Police in July.

A woman reported that her handgun stolen from her home, police said.

Investigators determined the woman’s 17-year old daughter stole the handgun and sold it to Edwards, police said.

Edwards has been incarcerated in a state facility since the end of July, when he was arrested for shooting at another person in the Rockville section of Vernon, police said.
