Vernon Town Administrator Michael Purcaro To Step Down

VERNON, CT — Vernon Town Administrator Michael Purcaro announced Thursday that he is stepping down later this month.

Purcaro was appointed to the position in September 2017 and before that served as the school system's finance director.

Purcaro said the move is related to "an amazing public service opportunity," while adding his new employer "will announce it accordingly."

His last day will be Aug. 23.

Purcaro has also served as the town's emergency management director.

"This was a difficult decision as I have served our community for 20 years in various capacities," Purcaro said in an emotional resignation letter. "These past seven years (as town administrator) have been some of the best years of my professional career. We have taken our town and community to the next level and have put Vernon on the map is so many positive ways."

Purcaro thanked Mayor Dan Champagne, the Vernon Town Council and members of the local boards and commission who "were committed to improving the quality of life for all Vernon residents."

Purcaro also thanked Vernon Superintendent of Schools Joseph Macary for overseeing "a word-class school system."

Purcaro continued, "We should be proud of our work together and celebrate the numerous accomplishments that have been made on behalf of our residents. Every decision we made was with the mindset of what is best for the community."
