VERNON, CT — A special town meeting vote on the proposed acquisition of land for a new athletic field complex scheduled for Tuesday night's Vernon Town Council meeting has been called off because of a transcription discrepancy.

The price tag for the project is $1.193 million but that amount was mistakenly altered on one set of documents, town officials said.

The council had slated a public hearing and special town meeting to formally present, then discuss and vote on the purchase, which includes 41.97 acres along the Windermere Avenue corridor and behind the Rockville CVS and Waldreens stores.

Part of the land sits in Ellington and officials from that town have agreed to share responsibilities for it.

The plan is to install grass fields, improve the banks of the Hockanum River and preserve an area of wetlands.
