VERNON, CT — The voting landscape in Vernon is a lot different in 2022 than it was for the last state election. Redistricting is the cause.

Vernon remains in the 35th state Senate District, a race for an open seat vacated by Vernon Mayor Daniel Champagne that pits Democrat Lisa Thomas against Republican Jeff Gordon. But the makeup of Vernon state House of Representatives districts has changed dramatically in two districts.

Gone is the old 8th state House district in favor of what is now a larger 53rd district. That's voting in the town's 4th District at Vernon Center Middle School and the race features Republican Tammy Nuccio against Democrat Kenneth Trice. The district stretches from the center of town just south of Interstate 84 south to the Bolton Lakes District and west to the Phoenix Street area.

Voting in the 3rd District is split up between the top third along the Skinner Road Corridor, which is the 57th House district, and the bottom third on the western border south of the highway, which is the 56th district. The 56th race features Republican Jim Tedford against Democrat Kevin Brown for an open seat vacated by Michael Winkler. The 57th race pits Democrat Jaime Foster against Republican David Stavens.

District 2 voting at Rockville High School and District 1 voting at Northeast School remain with the 56th House district.
