Improvements to the Hockanum River trail system are coinciding with the project, municipal officials said. The Planning and Zoning Commission also approved a site plan for a 90,000-square-foot self-storage facility, but no operator has been chosen yet, town officials said.

The Wendy's franchise will be be owned and operated by Meritage Hospitality. The fast food chain has been looking to set up shop in Vernon for about seven years, officials said. Meritage officials said they started hearing about public interest in Vernon while at a Manchester Wendy's 17 years ago.

The new Wendy's is employing 41 people and could add more to its roster, owners said.
