'Nor'easter Threat' Now in Connecticut’s Weather Forecast

It’s going to be an interesting weather week in Connecticut as all eyes will be focused on Thursday and the chance of a Nor’easter impacting the state. Preliminary forecasts call for snow and rain on Thursday accompanied by strong gusty winds.
The potentially significant storm is still days away and a lot can change between now and then but it looks like Thursday could be a very tricky weather day at the very least.
NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Darren Sweeney wrote Monday morning that “It has been a while since we have had a Nor'easter threat. There is one showing up in the models for Thursday.”

Before we get to more details on Thursday’s potential storm, northern Fairfield, New Haven, and Middlesex counties are under a “Hazardous Weather Outlook” due to the chance of some spotty freezing rain late Monday morning and early afternoon.
Hartford County is under a “Freezing Rain Advisory” from 3 p.m. until 11 p.m. Monday.

Concerning the potential Nor’easter, the National Weather Service states, that confidence is increasing for a Nor’easter Thursday into Thursday night, but it’s way too early to get into potential snow and rain accumulations, because the storm track still remains uncertain.

Updated forecast for Connecticut through New Year’s Day:
Monday: Chance of drizzle at the coast, some freezing rain inland. Temps on the coast near 45 degrees but inland just mid to upper 30s.
Tuesday: Rain early but ending before 10 a.m. Mostly cloudy with temps near 55 on the coast and low 50s inland. Gusty winds develop too.
Wednesday: Sunshine, seasonal with temps around 40 degrees at the coast and upper 30s inland.
***Thursday’s possible Nor’easter: At the coast, a chance of snow before 9 a.m. and then rain likely. High temp near 45 degrees.
Inland, snow holds on until early around noon Thursday and then a change to rain. In northern Connecticut, the precipitation could switch back to some snow before ending.
Friday: Sunny and cold, temps in the mid to upper 30s.
New Year’s Eve: Sunny but dry and temps in the mid 30s at the coast and only around 30 degrees inland. When the ball drops at midnight, expect temps in the low 20s in northern Connecticut and upper 20s at the coast.
New Year’s Day: Some snow and rain is in the forecast but no specifics have been released as it’s almost a week away.
