Villa Capri to be Demolished for New Cumberland Farms
The Wallingford Planning and Zoning Commission approved plans for the Cumberland Farms in place of the longtime wedding facility.

Wallingford, CT — Villa Capri in Wallingford will go out the way it started — with a wedding.
The owners of the banquet/wedding facility, who announced earlier this year that the facility will close on July 31 after 56 years, told the Meriden Record-Journal that business has picked up significantly since they made the announcement and it will be nice to go out on a high note.
The Record-Journal reports the Wallingford Planning and Zoning Commission recently approved plans to construct a Cumberland Farms in place of Villa Capri.

An encroachment permit from the state is still needed before the Cumberland Farms project can move forward, according to the Record-Journal.
Villa Capri was founded in 1960 by George and Rosalie Mesite.
The Mesite family announced in February that it will close the facility this summer, saying it was a difficult decision, “but we have decided to move on to the next chapter in our lives while keeping many fond, wonderful memories.”
The family said in a statement at the time that they “decided to entertain an offer so that we can continue to concentrate on running all of our Sonic of CT franchise stores, while building our brand, and our current business investments along with new ventures to come.”
