Wallingford ZBA Postpones Meeting Involving Oakdale Cease-and-Desist Order

The Zoning Board of Appeals has postponed the meeting until March.

The debate that has ensued since Wallingford issued a cease-and-desist order to the Toyota Oakdale Theatre is expected to last a little longer now that the town’s Zoning Board of Appeals has postponed Tuesday night’s meeting, according to WFSB 3.

WFSB reports that the meeting, in which Oakdale owner Live Nation is expected to state its case, will be held March 16 in the Robert Earley Auditorium at Town Hall.

The town issued the cease-and-desist order, accusing the Oakdale of violating its permit by holding concerts in “The Dome” and by exceeding noise levels and using an unapproved parking area.

Wallingford Mayor William W. Dickinson Jr. told the Meriden Record-Journal that the town negotiated for months, as far back as the spring, before issuing the cease-and-desist letter to the Oakdale.

Since the letter was issued, fans of the Oakdale have rallied and shown their support to the music venue and an online petition and a Facebook page, both called Save the Oakdale, were launched.

As of Feb. 17, the online petition had 8,879 signatures and the Facebook page had 6,948 likes.

Two sound studies were conducted by companies hired by the town and Live Nation Worldwide Inc. in late January and both yielded contradictory results about the noise levels at the Oakdale, according to the Record-Journal.

The Record-Journal recently reported that of the 28 noise complaints that were made against the Oakdale this past year, nearly half came from the same address on Beryl Lane.
